STORRS, Conn. - No. 4 UConn field hockey traveled to Boston, Mass. and handily defeated the No. 15 Boston University Terriers, 3-0. Freshman forward Anne Jeute (Meerbusch, Germany) tallied the game winner 13:52 into the first half. Jeute added an insurance tally in the 60th minute. Freshman Sarah Mansfield (Cornwall, England) stopped four shots to earn the victory. UConn improves to 13-3 on the season while Boston University falls to 9-6.
UConn out-shot the Terriers, 18-7, while holding an 8-3 edge in penalty corners. Connecticut, has now won three in a row and five of the last six games.
The Huskies jumped on top 13:52 into the first half when Jeute put home a shot from five yards out for her ninth goal of the season.
After the first half, Connecticut was ahead in shots, 9-2, and held a decisive edge in penalty corners, 4-0.
The Huskies continued the offensive attack in the second half, doubling the lead with a goal from Alicia Angelini (Boiling Springs, Pa.). Angelini buried her second goal of the season at 44:22.
Jeute completed the shutout with her 10th goal of the season at 59:28. Jeute tipped a shot from senior Melissa Gonzalez (Mohegan Lake, N.Y.) to close out the scoring at 3-0. Gonzalez earned her fifth assist of the season on the play.
With the victory, the Huskies have now defeated six ranked teams this season. UConn will look to add another victory over a ranked opponent when it travels to No. 8 Syracuse on Saturday, October 23 for a 12 p.m. contest against the Orange in a crucial BIG EAST Conference match.
