Huskies Finish Fourth On Saturday Night At The Armory

NEW YORK, N.Y. - With their championship lineup in place, the University of Connecticut track and field team headed to the elite Saturday Night at the Armory meet where they took on tough Ivy League, ECAC and ACC opponents and finished with a strong fourth place showing.
The Huskies earned points in 14 of the 15 events that they competed in also recording 12 IC4A qualifying times on the night.
UConn's top performance came in the 1000 meter run from Alex Bennetan (Lake Forest, Ill.) who finished second with an IC4A qualifying time of 2:28.56. He was followed directly behind by Michael DaPice (White Plains, N.Y.) who finished third, crossing the line in 2:29.32.
Also with a top-three finish was Kevin Steinberg (Langhorne, Pa.) in the 60 meter dash finishing with an IC4A qualifying time of 6.87 seconds. Finishing right behind Steinberg was Jesse Drinks (Ossinging, N.Y.) in fourth place also qualifying for the IC4A championship with a run of 6.89 seconds.
Steinberg also cracked the top-3 in the 200-meter run crossing the line with a time of 22.40. Also earning points in the 200 meter dash was captain Anthony Burris (Bridgeport, Conn.) who finished in sixth with a time of 22.58.
In the relays, the Huskies earned an IC4A berth in the 4x400 meter relay with a sixth place finish in a time of 3:18.25. The distance medley took home third place honors crossing the line with a time of 10:23.02.
On the field side of things, Jamaal Smith (Albany, N.Y.) finished third in the triple jump with an IC4A and personal best launch of 15.06 meters. Mike Alleman (Scotch Plains, N.J.) took fourth in the shot put, also qualifying for the IC4A Championship with a toss of 16.46 meters.
One of UConn's strongest field events, the weight throw, was successful for the Huskies once again. Josh Faboyede (Providence, R.I.) took fourth place with a toss of 17.55 meters while Patrick Sampson (Middletown, R.I.) took sixth finishing with a toss of 17.00 meters, both IC4A qualifiers.
The Huskies will be splitting time at both the prestigious New Balance Collegiate Invitational and Yale's Giegengack Invitational next weekend on February 5 and 6.
