PROVIDENCE, R.I. - After scoring a career-high two goals against Syracuse in BIG EAST action on Sunday, University of Connecticut sophomore Jessica Shufelt (Rochester, N.Y.) has earned BIG EAST Honor Roll honors in week six of the women's soccer season.
This is the first appearance on the BIG EAST Honor Roll for the sophomore.
Shufelt tallied her second and third goals of the season, and her career, on Sunday. Both of her goals on Sunday were laser strikes from about 25-yards out.
She started things off during the 36th minute giving the Huskies a two-goal lead. After two quick passes from sophomore Melissa Busque (St. Bruno, Quebec) and freshman Georgina Giddings (Feltham, England), Shufelt rounded up the ball and sent a long distance strike from 25 yards out that hit the bottom of the crossbar and bounced into the goal.
In the second half, Shufelt tacked an insurance goal on for the Huskies. After drawing the Syracuse goalie Eliza Bennett-Hattan out of the goal, Shufelt rocketed a shot over the retreating goalkeepers head to notch her second goal of the day.
Shufelt and the Huskies are back in action against Villanova on Friday, October 2 at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium at 7 p.m.
