Burris and Rochester Named Indoor Track Captains

STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut men's track team has named their captains for the 2010 Indoor Season and it will be Connecticut natives and seniors Anthony Burris (Bridgeport, Conn.) and Steven Rochester (Danbury, Conn.) that will lead the way as the Huskies try to win their third straight BIG EAST indoor title.
"Stephen and Anthony are senior captains who have both been All-BIG EAST competitors," said Head Coach Greg Roy. "They have contributed to two BIG EAST Championships in their first three years and look forward to that challenge as seniors. They lead by example and both have committed themselves to year round training exemplifying the qualities that we as a coaching staff look for in Connecticut track and field athletes. Both Stephen and Anthony are outstanding students, hard workers and great competitors."
Burris is a multi-dimensional runner who sprints and hurdles for the Huskies. He has been a BIG EAST pointgetter since his sophomore year and podiumed at the 2009 BIG EAST Indoor Championship earning third place in the 60-meter dash.
Last season, Burris qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Regional Championship in the 400-meter hurdles with a personal best and school record time of 51.11 seconds.
Rochester is also a sprinter that runs the majority of the 400-meter and 500-meter races for the Huskies during the indoor season. He was also a pointgetter for the Huskies in last year's BIG EAST Championship and has recorded points at BIG EAST Tournaments for the Huskies since his sophomore season.
Rochester has also made it to the podium at a BIG EAST Championship finishing third in the 500-meter with a personal best time of 1:02.65.
Both Burris and Rochester compete together in the 4x400-meter relay. The duo, along with All-Americans Michael Rutt (Sinking Spring, Pa.) and Brian Gagnon (Lowell, Mass.) took home the 2009 New England Indoor Championship title.
