STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut men's track and field team will be competing this upcoming weekend from May 8-9 at the New England Championship in Amherst, Mass. UConn, an perennial champion at the New England Indoor Championship, placed second last season at the Outdoor Championship after competing in the event for their first time in three years.
The Huskies took the runner up position with a shortened team due to finals. They finished with an overall total of 79 points behind Rhode Island who took the title with a score of 122.
Last season, the Huskies finished with four individual titles at the meet. On the track side of things, sophomore Kyle Edmonds (Metuchen, N.J.) will return to defend his 400-meter hurdles title which he won last year with a time of 52.34. In the field events, senior Andrew Dubs (Holland, Pa.) will look to contend his shot put title which he earned with a toss of 16.28m (48-4.25).
This year, nearly all of the Husky athletes have qualified for the tournament through their various meets held throughout the outdoor season.
