Men's Track Completes Day One At NCAA East Regionals

Greensboro, N.C. - The University of Connecticut men's track team finished day one competition at the NCAA East Regional with four top-10 finishes. Senior Ellis Gaulden (Tallahassee, Fla.) was the top finisher for the Huskies on the day garnering all of UConn's points while finishing sixth in both the high jump and the long jump.
In the high jump Gaulden recorded a height of 2.09m (6-10.25) to finish in sixth place, just out of reach of the automatic qualification. He finished in the same spot in the long jump, leaping 7.37m (24-2.25).
Also finishing in the top ten was senior Andrew Dubs (Holland, Pa.) who recorded his best finish at the NCAA East Regionals finishing ninth with a throw of 17.78m (58-4), his longest toss of the year.
Junior Anthony Burris (Bridgeport, Conn.) was the other top-10 finisher for the Huskies placing tenth in the 400m Hurdles with a time of 51.59.
As the top-five competitors at the East Regional automatically qualify for the NCAA Championship in Fayetteville, Ark., these three Huskies will be put into a pool of contenders from each of the Regionals with the hopes of making the cut for the NCAA Championship.
Also competing for the Huskies on the day were juniorKyle Edmonds (Metuchen, N.J.) in the 400m hurdles and classmate Dan Holst (Smithtown, N.Y.) in the 800m run. Edmonds finished 16th in the preliminaries of the 400m hurdles with a time of 52.88 while Holst, in his first appearance at the NCAA East Regionals, finished his race in 1:53.19.
In action tomorrow will be sophomore Kyle Duggan (Staten Island, N.Y.) who will be competing in the pole vault in his first regional appearance.
