Waruch Leads Decathlon After Day One At BIG EAST Tournament

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Ben Waruch (Kerhonkson, N.Y.) leads all competitors in the decathlon at the BIG EAST Championship after day one competition with 3,718 points. The freshman took first in the 100-meter (11.30) and the long jump (6.65m), finished second in the high jump (1.91m) and placed third in both the shot put (12.75m) and the 400m (49.96).
All four of the Husky competitors are in the top-five of the decathlon. Senior Sean Smith (Scotch Plains, N.J.) is currently in second place with 3,638 points after a first place finish in the high jump (1.94m). Freshman Jake Waruch (Kerhonkson, N.Y.) is in third with 3,562 points and senior Joe Staub (Stoneham, Mass.) rounds out the top five with 3,457 points.
The decathlon will conclude tomorrow after competition in the 110m hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and the 1500m race.
