Softball To Finish Regular Season Saturday

STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut softball team will conclude their regular season this week after a game at UMass on Thursday and a doubleheader against Providence this Saturday. On Saturday, the Huskies will host their senior day festivities honoring the seven graduating seniors on the team.
UConn will begin their final three games on Thursday at No. 24/19 UMass. The Minutewomen have slipped a little in the polls after losing their first Atlantic 10 conference game in almost three years. UMass was 49-0 in conference before their loss to Charlotte Saturday. The Minutewomen come into the game after a dominating sweep of Rhode Island on Tuesday.
UMass currently holds the edge in the long series between these two squads. With its 6-4 win over UConn last Thursday, April 23, the Minutewomen took a 41-40-1 lead in the series. UMass has taken five-straight victories from the Huskies With UConn's last win dating back to April 21, 2004.
UConn will return home to wrap up their regular season two days later hosting Providence in a BIG EAST doubleheader on Senior Day. Currently UConn is seventh in the BIG EAST with a 10-11 BIG EAST Record, 28-19 overall. Providence and UConn have met 73 times in the past with their first meeting coming in 1977, a 7-0 victory for the Huskies.Recently, the series has proved to be pretty even as UConn has taken four of the last 10 from the Friars. Last season, the two teams split in Providence.
On Senior Day, UConn will honor its seven graduating seniors; Erin Burtner, Rachael Crossin, Danielle Del Ponte, Sarah Neuschwander, Jillian Ortega, Meghan Tierney and Micah Truax, in a ceremony prior to game one of the doubleheader.
