STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut men's track and field outdoor team will be competing at the BIG EAST Championship this weekend in Villanova, Pa. Competition will begin Friday, May 1 and will conclude on Sunday, May 3.
Earlier this year, the Huskies took home their second straight BIG EAST Indoor Title dominating the competition. Last year, at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championship, UConn fell just shy of the title falling to Notre Dame 122.5-105. The Huskies last BIG EAST Outdoor title came in 2002.
The lone BIG EAST Outdoor Individual Champion returning to the meet this season is senior Andrew Dubs (Holland, Pa.). Dubs earned the shot put title last year with an outdoor personal best 18.37 meter toss. He has currently won the last four BIG EAST Championship shot put titles earning his first during the 2007 outdoor season.
All of the action will be streamed live on BIGEAST.tv starting with the multi-events on May 1. This year, BIGEAST.tv will have access to the Wavecam as part of its production. Ed Dougherty, an engineering professor at Villanova who invented the patent pending Wavecam, will be implementing the camera outdoors for the first time. Wavecam is an aerial remotely controlled camera system and was successfully used last basketball season for many of Villanova's men's and women's home games. It will be used as one of two different camera angles. The Wavecam will give users dynamic aerial views of events on the track and in the field.
