Hurdlers Bring Home Two Titles From UMass Invitational

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Connecticut men's track team took home two titles from the UMass invitational and recorded points in each of the events they competed in on their way to a fourth place finish. UConn was not competing with a full squad but managed 68.5 points.
Taking home the title in the 400m Hurdles was freshman Chris Tomori (Chesterfield, N.J.) with a time of 54.03. Also in the hurdles, freshman Jim Kehrer (Albany, N.Y.) won the 110m race in 15.04. Senior Sean Smith (Scotch Plains, N.J.) rounded out the top three in the 110m hurdles with his time of 15.30.
In the 400m dash, junior Steven Rochester (Danbury, Conn.) took home a second place finish with a time of 48.75.
Also finishing in the top three in his event was sophomore Tyrone Faverey (Allentown, Pa.) who had a third place finish in the triple jump leaping 14.12m (46-4).
In their final day of the Penn Relays, the 4x800 meter relay team of sophomores Dan Holst (Smithtown, N.Y.) and David Macklem (Tolland, Conn.), freshman Tim Bennatan (Lake Forest, Ill.) and senior Steve Iannaccone (Toms River, N.J.) took home third place with an IC4A qualifying time of 7:29.27.
The Huskies are back in action next weekend at the BIG EAST Championship in Villanova, Pa. from May 1-May 3.
