Men's Track Off To Penn Relays and UMass Invitational

STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut men's track and field team will compete at both the Penn Relays and the UMass Invitational this weekend. The majority of the events that the Huskies will compete in will be on Friday, April 24 while the UMass Invitational will take place Saturday, April 25.
At the Penn Relays, the Huskies will be running in three relay events, the 4 x 100, the 4 x 800, and the Distance Medley. They will also have athletes competing in the 400m hurdles, high jump, pole vault, shot put and discus. All of the events will take place Friday, except for the 4 x 800-meter relay which will be run Saturday at 4:25 p.m.
Last season at the Penn Relays, senior Andrew Dubs (Holland, Pa.) was the top-finisher for the Huskies with a second place performance in the shot put of 16.96m (55-1.5). Sophomore Zach Meverden (Wexford, Pa.) also performed well placing third in the pole vault with a height of 4.75m (15-5).
At the UMass Invitational, the other half of the team will be in competition. They will be up against athletes from Central Connecticut, Dartmouth, Hartford, Harvard, Maine, New Hampshire, UMass, and Vermont.
Last season, for their pre-conference tune up, the Huskies traveled to the Wildcat Invitational at the University of New Hampshire where they placed first in eight different events. Four track athletes earned first place finishes, the 4x400m relay team took home the title, two field athletes garnered first place finishes and senior Sean Smith (Scotch Plains, N.J.) won the decathlon.
These meets are the final tune-up for the Huskies before the BIG EAST Championship which will take place next weekend from May 1-May 3 in Villanova, Pa.
