HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - A single by sophomore Julianne Towers (Goodlettsville, Tenn.) brought in the game-winning run in the top of the eighth inning as the University of Connecticut held on for the 1-0 victory at Hofstra Tuesday. Junior Tricia Sullivan (New Bedford, Mass.) scored the winning run for the Huskies.
With the win, UConn improved to 24-12 while Hofstra dropped to 19-15. UConn has won 10 out of its last 11 games.
Neither team could get anything going during the first seven innings as UConn only managed one hit while Hofstra was only able to knock out two off of senior Rachael Crossin (Fairless Hills, Pa.). Crossin finished the game with a career high 14 strikeouts, shutting out her opposition for the second time this season.
But in the eighth, things changed for the Huskies. Junior Justyne Roy (North Dighton, Mass.) started the inning off with a double off of the outfield wall to dead center. Sullivan came in to pinch run for Roy and three batters later, with two outs on the board, Towers came through for the Huskies driving in her third two-out RBI of the season.
The Huskies are back in action Wednesday, April 15 at home when they take on Dartmouth at 4:00 p.m.
