BUFFALO, N.Y. - An early third period goal by Dave Kostuch pushed Canisius past the University of Connecticut men's hockey team in the final game of the weekend series, Sunday at the Buffalo State Sports Arena.
The Huskies fell 1-0 in the Sunday matinee dropping to 2-7-1 on the season, 2-4-1 Atlantic Hockey. Canisius improves to 5-6-1 on the year and 4-3-1 AHA.
Freshman goaltender Jeff Larson (Ballwin, Mo.) finished the day with 28 saves and just one goal allowed playing 59:28 between the pipes. On the other end, Dan Morrison played all 60 minutes shutting out the Huskies while making 19 saves.
Neither team was able to get on the board in the first and second periods, but at 4:04 in the third, Kostuch finally cracked into the scoreboard putting Canisius up with just under 16 minutes to go in the game on what would be the game-winner. Kostuch was aided by Josh Heidinger and Ryan Klusendorf.
UConn was not able to battle back today as the Griffs held on to win.
The Huskies are back in action next weekend in their final home games of the fall season when they take on Air Force on November 20 and 21 at the Mark Edward Freitas Ice Forum. The puck will drop at 7:05 p.m.
