Ruutu, Busque Earn BIG EAST Accolades

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - University of Connecticut freshman Linda Ruutu (Espoo, Finland) earned two weekly awards following her performance against Villanova and Georgetown. The rookie was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week and was also named to TopDrawerSoccer Women's College Team of the Week.
Sophomore Melissa Busque (St. Bruno, Quebec) also earned BIG EAST accolades after being named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll.
Ruutu recorded two goals on the weekend, one in each of the Husky's victories. Her goal on Friday night was the gamewinner in the 1-0 victory over Villanova. It was the third gamewinning goal for Ruutu this season. She recorded the first goal of the game for the Huskies on Sunday giving UConn a 1-0 lead until the 76th minute. Ruutu also played some strong defense in both of the games helping the Huskies to a 2-0 record over the course of the weekend.
This is Ruutu's first BIG EAST award this season after being named to the Honor Roll the week of September 14. This is also the first national award for the rookie.
Busque tallied three points over the course of the weekend recording an assist on Ruutu's gamewinner against Villanova on Friday and scoring the gamewinning goal against Georgetown on Sunday in the 77th minute of play, her fourth gamewinning goal of the year. The assist and the goal were both the fifth of the season for the sophomore who is having a breakout season.
This is the first time that Busque has appeared on the BIG EAST Honor Roll in her career at UConn.

Natalie Farley, Georgia - Played 180 minutes in the back line in a pair of shutout wins for the Bulldogs, adding a game-winning goal against Vanderbilt.
McKenna Waitley, Washington - Scored 3 goals in a pair of wins for the Huskies.
Linda Ruutu, Connecticut - Scored twice as the Huskies defeated Georgetown and Villanova.
