No. 7 Field Hockey Posts 3-0 Shutout at Rutgers

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Senior Loren Sherer (Essex, England) scored a pair of goals to lead the No. 7 University of Connecticut field hockey team to a 3-0 shutout at Rutgers on Saturday afternoon.
The win marks the Huskies second straight and its seventh shutout this season. With the victory, Connecticut improves to 16-2 overall and 4-1 in BIG EAST action. The Scarlet Knights slip to 2-15 overall and 0-5 in league play.
The Huskies' offense converted on three of their seven penalty corner opportunities as Allison Angulo (Mount Bethel, Pa.) and Alicia Angelini (Boiling Springs, Pa.) each finished with three assists as the tandem successfully set up each of UConn's trio of scores in the win.
Jestine Angelini (Boiling Springs, Pa.) got the scoring started for Connecticut with her 10th tally of the season just 3:32 into the contest.
Sherer added the first of her two goals at 12:26 in the first half before wrapping up the game's scoring with her team-leading 26th of the year at 60:44.
UConn goalkeeper Andrea Mainiero (Emmaus, Pa.) made four saves while notching her sixth shutout of the season.
For the game, Connecticut attempted seven penalty corners while limiting Rutgers to just four opportunities. The Huskies out-shot the Scarlet Knights 11-7.
UConn returns to action on Wednesday, October 28 when it plays host to Albany in a non-conference matchup beginning at 4:00 p.m. (ET) at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex.
