STORRS, Conn. (September 26, 2008) - The University of Connecticut women's cross country team will compete in its first dual meet on Saturday afternoon against Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Conn.
The Huskies are coming off of a third place finish at the Ted Owens Invitational in New Britain, Conn. at Stanley Quarter Park. Freshman Courtney Dinnan (Hamden, Conn.) was the Huskies' first place finisher with a time of 18:34, beating out her first place finish two weeks prior to that run at the same course.
This weekend, the Huskies will use this meet to prepare them for the start of its championship season. On Oct. 11, UConn will compete at the New England Championship in Boston, Mass.
"These young ladies have shown great determination this season," said head coach Bill Morgan. "Quinnipiac has much speed and athleticism in their program, with an All-American runner and athletes that run at the national level. It will be a great experience for us."
Sara Leslie (Portland, Conn.) and sophomore Leah Andrianos (East Syracuse, N.Y.) were UConn's other top finishers last week in New Britain and look to improve on their past performances in this weekend's 5K race.
"This meet will be a good test before our championship season begins," said assistant coach Clive Terrelonge. "We have been improving ever since the first meet of the season and we are just looking to keep going up from there."
