STORRS, Conn. (September 11, 2008) - The No. 25 University of Connecticut women's soccer team will host the 16th annual UConn Classic this weekend at Joseph J. Morrone stadium. UConn will face tough competition this weekend as the No. 1 team in the country, UCLA, will be a part of the competition at the classic as well as No. 11 Penn State and Brown.
Play will begin Friday at 5:00 p.m. when Penn State takes on Brown University in the first part of a doubleheader. Game two begins at 7:30 p.m. when UConn will take on UCLA. UConn has faced UCLA twice before with the series knotted up 1-1.
The classic will continue on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. when UCLA matches up with Brown. UConn will finish off the weekend with a match against Penn State at 2:30 p.m. The series between Penn State and UConn is one of the longest in UConn history. The Huskies took on Penn State in their first year of competition in 1979.
The game between the two is a fitting finale to the UConn Classic as the Huskies are celebrating 30 years of women's soccer throughout the weekend.
