Women's Tennis Edged By Rutgers, 4-3

STORRS, Conn. (April 9, 2008) - The University of Connecticut women's tennis team swept the bottom half of the order, but fell to Rutgers, 4-3, Wednesday afternoon at the UConn Tennis Courts. UConn is now 9-5 overall and 4-4 in the BIG EAST heading into the conference finale on Saturday.
Jessica Porter (Duluth, Ga.) and Ali Campitiello (Staten Island, N.Y.) continued their team-leading ways by capturing wins in flights four and five, respectively. Porter earned her 11th dual match win of the year by defeating Caitlin Baker, 6-1, 7-5, in No. 4 singles, while Campitiello earned her team-leading 11th consecutive victory (14 on the season). She bested Christine Tran, 6-0, 6-2, in flight five.
The Huskies' third point of the day came from No. 6 singles, which they won by default due to no Rutgers player.
UConn returns to action Saturday at 11 a.m. against West Virginia on the UConn Tennis Courts. This will be the final BIG EAST match of the year before conference championships begin on Apr. 17 in Tampa, Fla.
