PROVIDENCE, R.I. (April 21, 2008) - The BIG EAST Conference announced Monday that University of Connecticut junior softball player Rachael Crossin (Fairless Hills, Pa.) has been named the BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week for her performance over the past seven days. She went 3-0 in her three starts with a 0.00 ERA. She gave up only two unearned runs and struck out 19 in 21 innings pitched. She was a major part of UConn winning all six of their games last week, the only BIG EAST team to go undefeated during that period.
Crossin is the first Husky pitcher to be honored this season and third overall after Melissa Lucas (Methuen, Mass.) was named BIG EAST Player of the Week on March 3, and Micah Truax (South Glen Falls, N.Y.) was named Player of the Week on April 14.
Also being honored this week was junior catcher Danielle Del Ponte (Tewksbury, Mass.), who was named to the BIG EAST honor roll. Del Ponte hit .478 (11-for-23) with five runs scored and five RBI. She had at least one hit in all six games, and had three hits in two of them.
The Huskies return to action with a pair of home games this week. UConn will host Central Connecticut on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. They then will host UMass on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
