STORRS, Conn. (Nov. 11, 2008) – The University of Connecticut held its weekly football media luncheon on Tuesday for Saturday's game against Syracuse. Here are selected quotes from the event.
Head Coach Randy Edsall
What do you see in the two young quarterbacks’ futures?
With both (Zach Frazer and Cody Endres) the only factor is experience. They learn something new every time they go out and take a snap. If you take a look at Zach in the UNC game he had some issues, and he came back against Rutgers and didn’t have the same issues. Cody didn’t have many issues against Cincinnati and then he had some issues with WV. Some of the things with those two guys are them trying to do too much. Both have the ability to be very good college QBs, but they’re not going to do it by themselves.
What will Syracuse’s attitude coming into Saturday’s game be, and what is your plan of action?
I’m sure they’re going to be fired up because it’s senior day. I’m certain everybody’s going to be fired up for every game. What we have to do is go and play our game. If we play our game and do the things we’re capable of doing then we’ll be in really good shape. If we don’t, then it becomes interesting.
What is the one think your team needs to improve on the most?
If you look at our three losses, we lost two of them because of turnovers (UNC and WV). We’re a team that if we go out and we execute, and we don’t turn the ball over, and we take advantage of our opportunities when we’re in the scoring areas we can beat anybody. If we don’t, we subject ourselves to being beat by anybody as well. If you research college football, the teams that win the turnover battle win more games than they lose.
On Redshirt freshman Twyon Martin's weight loss.
I think he did it to get a girlfriend. I think it was good that he did it, but he took too much off. Now he thinks he’s suave and thinks he’s a model but we have to tell him he’s a football player. He did take a lot off but we’re hoping that he puts the good weight back on. He’s got to make getting bigger a priority while keeping his quickness. We want him to get back to 280-285 from where he is now in the 260’s.
