2007 Men's Hockey Seniors Begin Pro Careers

STORRS, Conn. (September 21, 2007) - Graduated University of Connecticut men's hockey players Matt Scherer and B.J. Crum are both receiving an opportunity to begin their professional careers. Scherer is in camp with the American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, an affiliate of the New York Islanders, while Crum is in camp with the Providence Bruins, an affiliate of the Boston Bruins.
Scherer, the captain in 2006-07, had a breakout year with 22 goals and 14 assists, leading the team with 36 points. He ranks 11th on the UConn career list with 62 goals and 21st with 105 points.
Crum was a key figure on the blue line the past four seasons, leading the Husky defense. Last season, he recorded four goals and three assists. He ended his Connecticut career with 18 goals and 20 assists for 38 points.
The 2007-08 hockey team gets under way on October 14 with an exhibition game against Ryerson. Game time is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. at the Freitas Ice Forum.
