Three Athletes Qualify for NCAA Championships
Most to Represent UConn at NCAA's in Program History
STORRS, Conn. (May 29, 2007) - The University of Connecticut women's track and field team is capping off one of the most successful seasons in program history as three athletes have qualified to compete at the NCAA Outdoor Championships next week in Sacramento, Calif.
Sophomore Jessi Foreman (Wayland, Mass.), freshman Carin Knight (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and senior Jillian Sullivan (Bristol, Conn.) make up the largest group of athletes to represent UConn at the National Championships.
Foreman will compete in the 100m dash. She finished sixth this past weekend at the NCAA East Regional meet. Her fastest time of the season is 11.49, a school record, and ranks 22nd out of next weekend's 29 competitors.
Knight is coming off a stellar weekend in which she won the high jump title with a personal best mark of 1.81m. In just her first collegiate season, Knight heads to Nationals ranked 17th of 28 competitors in the high jump field.
Sullivan looks to cap off an amazing four-year career next weekend. A BIG EAST Champion in the 3,000m steeplechase, she finished ninth at the EAST Regional and goes into the event ranked 15th out of 27 with a school record time of 10:13.45 she set earlier this season.
Foreman, Knight and Sullivan travel to Sacramento, Calif., next week for competition that starts Wednesday, June 6 and runs through Saturday, June 9.
