Golf Stands 11th After Day One at BIG EAST

SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. (April 22, 2007)-- The University of Connecticut shot a score of 311 Sunday and stands in 11th place after one day of competition at the 2007 BIG EAST Men's Golf Championship at the Cardinal Club Golf Course.
The University of Louisville holds the team lead with a team total of 283, good for a six shot lead over St. John's University. Marquette stands in third place at 290, Notre Dame fourth at 291 and DePaul rounds out the top five at 293.
UConn senior Jason Parajeckas (Woburn, Mass.) shot a one-under par 71 Sunday and stands in a tie for sixth place in the individual standings. Mike Van Sickle of Marquette holds the individual lead after shooting a 66 Sunday. Adam Rainaud of Louisville is second with a 67.
Sophomore A.J. Siekierski (North Grosvenordale, Conn.) was the only other Husky to break 80 Sunday, carding a six-over par 78, and is tied for 46th place overall.
The tournament continues Monday and Tuesday, with threesomes going off the first tee beginning at 8:00 a.m.
