Women's Tennis Dominates Rhode Island 6-1

STORRS, Conn. (March 27, 2007) - Fueled by five wins in singles, the University of Connecticut women's tennis team dominated Rhode Island 6-1 on Tuesday afternoon in Storrs, Conn.
UConn was able to take the doubles point with victories at the No. 2 and 3 spots. Freshmen Alli Campitiello (New York, N.Y.) and Kelley LoRusso (Shoreham, N.Y.) teamed up to defeat Nyssa Peele and Valerie Charon 8-5 at No. 2. Sophomore Breann Cheung (Tucson, Ariz.) and junior Jess Porter (Duluth, Ga.) were 8-5 winners at No. 3 over Amanda Barletta and Steff Catanzano.
LoRusso got her second win of the day at No. 2 singles over Charon 6-2, 6-3 while Porter also picked up another win at No. 3 6-2, 6-3 defeating Peele. Cheung fought back after dropping the first set to Grace Hedstrom 3-6 to win the final two 6-4, 10-4 to take the match at No. 4.
Campitiello cruised past Barletta at No. 5 6-1, 6-1 while senior Liz Dibbs (Allentown, Pa.) was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Catanzano at No. 6.
