Women's Tennis Finishes Bucknell Invitational On High Note

LEWISBERG, Pa. (October 7, 2007) - Ali Campitiello (New York, N.Y.) and Megan Doran (Brigantine, N.J.) were winners in both singles and doubles as the University of Connecticut women's tennis team wrapped up the Bucknell Invitational Sunday afternoon.
The Huskies finished the tournament with the final round of round robin play in singles action. The first two rounds were played on Friday and Saturday, along with three rounds of doubles Saturday. After three days of competition, UConn came away with final victories in five-of-eight singles flights and one doubles.
Campitiello/Doran won Flight 3 doubles after sweeping all three matches yesterday. The two were also victorious in their respective singles flights, with Campitiello finishing first in #5 and Doran in #6 after defeating her opponent, 4-6, 6-2, (10-8), Sunday.
Three other Huskies won all three of their singles matches to finish in the top spot. Katie Mortitz (York, Pa.) and Alison Koch (Lafayette Hill, Pa.) took Flights 7 and 8. Moritz defeated Boston University's Tiff Card, 6-1, 6-0, while Koch came away with a 6-0, 6-3 win in the #8 spot against against Kirstyn Sotak, also of BU.
At #4, Jessica Porter (Duluth, Ga.) came away with a win by default. She and Campitiello both received third round wins by default due to absent NJIT players.
The women's tennis team returns to action Oct. 18-21 at the ITA Regional Championships, hosted by Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va. This will be its final fall match of the year.
