12 swimmers hold top 100 times
STORRS, Conn. (January 2, 2007) – The University of Connecticut swimming program headed into their winter break training trip on a high note as several swimmers have posted times in the top 100 in their individual events according to collegeswimming.com.
Sophomore Adrian Astiz (Bethesda, Md.) leads all ranking Huskies with a 200 butterfly time of 1:48.23, giving him the 25th best time in the event in Division I. Astiz also holds a 100 breaststroke time of 56.62 giving him the 58th ranking and a 200 IM time of 1:52.23, slotting him in the 92nd position.
Other raking male swimmers include Abed Kaaki (Ras Tanura, Saudi Arabia), Nick Acquavito (Freeport, N.Y.), Frisk Driscoll (Westport, Conn.), Tristan Jones (Canberra, Australia) and Chris Ferreria (Madison, Conn.).Jones also had four top 100 spots, Kaaki placed in the top 100 for three events, while Acquavito had two.
Sophomore Lisa Shelps (Quakertown, Pa.) notched two times in the top 100 to lead the women's team, posting a 4:22.94 time in the 400 IM, good enough for 53rd overall and a 2:03.95 in the 200 IM giving her the 64th best time.
Also having top 100 times for the women are Courtney Haney (Mesa, Ariz.), Sarah Kearns (Milford, Mass.), Kristalynn Kempton (Glen Head, N.Y.), Danielle Sanders (Mississauga, Ontario) and Katie DeVinney (Avondale, Ariz.).
The Huskies will return to competition on Saturday January 20, as they travel to Rhode Island. Meet time is set for 1 p.m.
