No. 10 UConn Field Hockey Hands Quinnipiac 3-0 Shutout

STORRS, Conn. (September 26, 2006) - Three different players scored goals to lead the No. 10 University of Connecticut field hockey team to a 3-0 win over Quinnipiac on Tuesday night at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex.
The shutout marked UConn’s third in as many games and its fourth overall this season. The Huskies improve to 8-2 on the season while the Bobcats fall to 3-5 following the defeat.
Lizzy Peijs (Venlo, Holland) gave UConn a 1-0 lead with her team-leading eighth goal of the season at the 14:25 mark of the opening half off a feed from Lauren Aird (Harare, Zimbabwe).
Aird added a goal of her own after just 21 seconds expired in the second half to increase the advantage to 2-0.
Junior Nikki Harmony (Palmyra, Pa) rounded out the game’s scoring with her third tally of the season at the 50:22 mark off an assist Peijs.
For the game, UConn out-shot Quinnipiac 18-4 and attempted 13 penalty corners to Quinnpiac’s two.
UConn goalkeeper Andrea Mainiero (Emmaus, Pa.) made three saves en route to the shutout.
The Huskies return to action on Friday, Sept. 29 when they travel to face Louisville in a key BIG EAST clash beginning at 7:00 p.m. (ET).
