STORRS, Conn. (July 24, 2006)-- The University of Connecticut announced its 14-game men’s basketball non-conference schedule Monday, featuring intersectional battles against 2006 Final Four participant LSU, Indiana, Mississippi and a game at the site of the 2007 Final Four, the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, against Georgia Tech.
The Huskies will begin the season with a pair of exhibition contests, one against head coach Jim Calhoun’s alma mater American International College on November 1 and another against perennial Division III power Bryant College on November 6. The regular season opener is November 10 vs. Quinnipiac.
UConn will serve as host of the Hispanic College Fund Classic at the Hartford Civic Center on November 17, 18 and 19. The four-team round robin event will also feature Central Arkansas, Fairfield and Mississippi. The tourney will feature a doubleheader each of its three days.
The non-conference slate includes 13 home dates (including exhibitions) and two road contests. The first of those road contests will be a January 6 trip to Baton Rouge for a contest with Louisiana State. The final non-conference tilt of the year will be a February 11 trip to Atlanta and the contest against the Yellow Jackets at the Georgia Dome.
