Men's Track Finishes Seventh At IC4A Championships

PRINCETON, N.J. (May 14, 2006) - The University of Connecticut men's track and field team finished in seventh place with 30 points at the IC4A Championships, held at Princeton University over the weekend.
In the final day of competition on Sunday, four Huskies placed in the javelin throw. Freshman Rob Lasko (North Branford, Conn.) finished in 11th place with a throw of 59.92m while sophomore Andrew Firger (Haverhill, Mass.) was 17th with a distance of 55.62m. Sophomore Thomas Landry (Athol, Mass.) took 20th in the event with a throw of 54.96m and was followed by freshman James Roy (Simsbury, Conn.) who was 21st in 54.89m.
Rounding out the field events for UConn was freshman Marquis Thomas (Mattapan, Mass.), who placed seventh in the high jump with a distance of 2.04m, and sophomore Musevani Akanno (Linden, N.J.) who was seventh in the triple jump with a distance of 14.66m.
In the 4x100m relay, UConn placed fifth with a time of 41.60 seconds and the Huskies also placed eighth in the 4x800m relay with a time of 7:39.62. Junior Edwin Campbell (Silver Spring, Md.) was eighth in the 400m run with a time of 48.80 seconds and senior Joel Legare (Holden, Mass.) was second in the 800m with a time of 1:48.62.
George Mason captured the meet with a total of 59 points. Cornell was second with 51 points and Penn was third with 48 points.
Select members of the UConn squad will continue competition next weekend at the NCAA Regional Championships in Greensboro, N.C.
