EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (April 7) -- The University of Connecticut women's tennis team lost by a 6-1 score to Syracuse on Friday afternoon. Due to rain the match was moved from Storrs to the East Hartford Racquet Club. UConn dips to 4-11 this spring while the Orange is now 13-5.
UConn's two matches won on the day were due to defaults because Syracuse had just five available players. So, doubles saw Syracuse win both of the matches to claim the point with the tighter of the two being an 8-6 match at No. 1 where Christine Burek and BreAnn Cheung fought valiantly for the Huskies. Singles saw UConn awarded a point for the uncontested match at No. 6, but the Orange swept the other five matches. Jessica Porter has the most success of any Husky, forcing her match at No. 3 against Katie Bramante to a super-tiebreaker before falling, 3-6, 6-3, 10-6.
The Huskies return to action on Sunday when they play host to St. John's at noon.
