STORRS, Conn. (March 29, 2006) - Following their first scored meet of the outdoor season, the University of Connecticut men’s track and field team will compete in their first northern meet of the season when they host the UConn Invitational on Saturday, April 8.
After a second-place finish at the South Florida Quad Meet last weekend, the Huskies return home for the first of three meets that will be held in Storrs during the outdoor season. At the meet, members of the UConn team will look to improve on their times from earlier in the season while also acclimating back to competition in the chillier climate of Connecticut.
Said Head Coach Greg Roy, “This weekend we are working toward putting the remainder of the team together and filling up the few roster spots that are left open. It is a good field and having this be our first northern meet will help us progress toward the BIG EAST Championships that we will host here in Storrs the first weekend of May.”
The meet, held at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex, will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday with the field events and the final event is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. Prior to the men's competition, the women's track and field team will compete beginning at 10:00 a.m.
The Huskies will host Northeastern, Central Connecticut, Brown, Quinnipiac, Vermont, Sacred Heart and the University of Rhode Island at the meet. A recap of the meet and complete results can be found on UConnHuskies.com following all events.
