Men's Track Captures Seven Events At Wildcat Invitational

DURHAM, N.H. (April 29, 2006) - Seven members of the University of Connecticut men's track and field team captured event titles at the Wildcat Invitational on Saturday. There was no team scoring at the meet.
In the 100m dash, freshman Anthony Pomo (Saddle Brook, N.J.) captured the title in a time of 11.31 seconds. Junior Edwin Campbell (Silver Spring, Md.) was the 200m champion with a time of 22.39 seconds and classmate Kyle Eckman (Bridgewater, N.J.) took the 800m title in 1:54.13. UConn also captured the titles in the 4x100m relay with a time of 42.08 and the 4x400m relay in 3:20.94.
In the hammer throw, sophomore David Roy (Woonsocket, R.I.) won the event with a throw of 52.24m. He was followed by senior Aaron Isaacs (Danbury, Conn.) in fourth place with a throw of 48.79m. Sophomore Daniel Hutcherson (New London, Conn.) was second in the high jump in 1.93m and sophomore Musevani Akanno (Linden, N.J.) finished fourth in the long jump and second in the triple jump with distances of 6.63m and 14.41m.
In the discus throw, freshman Andrew Bennett (Westbury, N.J.) was second with a throw of 45.73m while Isaacs took third with a distance of 44.97. The Huskies swept the top four spots in the javelin throw, with freshman Rob Lasko (North Branford, Conn.) taking the title in 62.76m. He was followed by senior Earlando Torres in second with a throw of 59.15m, sophomore Thomas Landry (North Branford, Conn.) in third in 55.55m and sophomore Andrew Firger (Haverhill, Mass.) was fourth with a throw of 53.65m.
The Huskies will be in action next on Friday, May 5 on the first day of the BIG EAST Championships. Held at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex on the campus of the University of Connecticut, the Championships will run through Sunday, May 7.
