STORRS, Conn. (April 27, 2006) - The University of Connecticut men's track and field team will be split up again this weekend, with part of the team heading to Philadelphia, Pa. for the Penn Relays while the remainder of the squad will be competing at the University of New Hampshire.
Coming off of a victory at the second UConn Invitational of the season last weekend, ten Huskies will head to the Penn Relays to compete in five events. Sophomore Steven Iannaccone (Toms River, N.J.), junior Max Feldman (Easton, Conn.), freshman Brian Gagnon (Lowell, Mass.) and senior Joel Legare (Holden, Mass.) will comprise UConn's entry into the 4x800m relay. UConn, which won the distance medley relay at the Penn Relays in 2000, should have an impressive showing at the meet. The event will begin at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday at Franklin Field.
Also competing at the Relays are sophomore Andrew Dubs (Holland, Pa.) in the shot put, freshman Marquis Thomas (Mattapan, Mass.) in the high jump and senior Mark Godoy (Amityville, N.Y.) in the triple jump. Three Huskies will take on the best in the pole vault, with juniors Jake Radzevich (Hampstead, N.H.), Jonas TePaske (Freehold, N.J.) and Sean Berg (Mystic, Conn.) all competing in the event. The high jump (10:00 a.m.), the shot put (12:00 p.m.) and the pole vault (3:00 p.m.) will all be contested on Friday, April 28 and the triple jump (11:00 a.m.) will take place on Saturday, April 29.
The remainder of the UConn team will travel to Durham, N.H. this weekend to compete in the third Wildcat Invitational of the season. It will be UConn's final meet of the regular season and the final chance for individual team members to qualify for the BIG EAST Championships. All events will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 29.
