Women's Tennis Falls to Rutgers, 5-2

STORRS, Conn. (April 12, 2006) – Despite singles wins from BreAnn Cheung and Ashley Petruzzi, the University of Connecticut women’s tennis team fell to Rutgers 5-2 on Wednesday afternoon at the UConn Tennis Courts. The Huskies now drop to 6-13 on the season while the Scarlet Knights improve to 13-7.
In doubles action, UConn dropped all three matches to Rutgers. The No. 3 combination of Jackie Shapiro and Petruzzi kept it close losing 9-7. In singles play, Cheung (at the No. 4) won in straight sets 6-3, 6-1. Petruzzi (at the No. 6) took Rutgers’ Anela Dujsic to three sets winning the final 10-7.
The Huskies will now wait to see if they advance to the BIG EAST Tournament to be played in Tampa, Fla. on April 20-23.
