Women's Tennis Blank Holy Cross, 7-0

STORRS, Conn. (April 10) -- Neither the University of Connecticut men's or women's tennis teams dropped a single match as they each defeated Holy Cross by 7-0 scores on Monday afternoon at the UConn Tennis Courts. The Husky men improve to 4-10 on the year while the women are now 5-12. The Crusaders dip to 5-3 and 1-5, respectively, with the losses.
The women were especially dominant for UConn as the Huskies lost a combined total of just five games over the nine matches played. In doubles, UConn picked up 8-0 victories at the lower two positions with Jessica Porter and Elizabeth Dibbs teaming up on a shutout win at No. 2 while the No. 3 position saw Jaclyn Shapiro and Alison Koch post an 8-0 victory. In singles play, Porter (playing at No. 3) and Koch (playing at No. 6) each got perfect "double bagel" victories, winning their matches 6-0, 6-0. Shapiro (No. 1), Christine Burek (No. 2), BreAnn Cheung (No. 4) and Dibbs (No. 5) each lost only one game in their singles matches.
On the men's side, the doubles teams played well across the board as all three won their matches by an 8-3 margin. UConn took all six singles matches, five of them in straight sets. Joey Michaels posted UConn's third shutout singles win of the day between the two genders as he defeated Marco Lombardo, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. The closest match of the day for either team was at No. 3 singles where Christian Malerba and Angelo Sica went to a super-tiebreaker before the Husky sophomore emerged with a 6-4, 6-7, 11-9 win.
The UConn women return to action on Tuesday when they play host to Providence College at 3:00 p.m. The men are off until Wednesday when they will play host to Marist at 2:30 p.m.
