Golf Opens Season At Point Loma/Smee Builders Invitational

JAMUL, Calif. (March 7, 2006) - The University of Connecticut men's golf team opened the 2006 spring season at the Point Loma/Smee Builders Invitational on Monday afternoon. The Huskies stand in 10th place out of 15 teams after the first day of competition, shooting a 631 (320-311) through the first two rounds of play.
Sophomore A.J. Siekierski (North Grovenordale, Conn.) led UConn on the first day of competition, compiling rounds of 79 and 73 to finish the day tied for 13th with a total score of 152. Freshman L.J. Tosches (Grafton, Mass.) was next in a tie for 43rd after shooting a 160 (84-76) and junior Daniel White (Westford, Mass.) is currently tied for 49th after rounds of 86 and 76 to finish with a 162 total. Junior Jason Parajeckas (Woburn, Mass.) is tied for 53rd with a 163 (75-88) and sophomore Brian Travalja (Oradell, N.J.) rounded out the Husky lineup, finishing the day in a tie for 66th after shooting a 168 (82-86).
A second group of members of the UConn team are also participating in the tournament. The UConn 'B' team currently stands in 14th place after the first day, finishing with rounds of 334 and 323 for a 657 total. Sophomore Ryan Dandeneau (Chepachet, R.I.) is in a tie for 32nd after rounds of 78 and 80 for a total of 158 while junior Jonathan Klein (Southington, Conn.) stands in a tie for 49th after shooting a 162 (80-82) in the first day of competition. Senior Michael Hornung (Hartland, Wisc.) and freshman Nicholas Waddington (Amston, Conn.) are both tied for 70th after the first day. Both shot a two-round total of 170 on the first day, with Hornung turning in rounds of 89 and 81 while Waddington shot 90 and 80 on his two rounds. Freshman Tim Strout (Nashua, N.H.) rounded out the group in 72nd place with a 171 (87-84).
CSU-Stanislaus held the top spot after the first day of action with a total of 580 (291-289). Ryan Thornberry of CSU-Stanislaus also stands in first place among all individuals with a total of 138 (68-70).
The Huskies will wrap up competition at the Point Loma/Smee Builders Invitational on Tuesday, March 7. Their next tournament is the George Washington Invitational on March 25 and 26.
