Del Ponte Named To BIG EAST Softball Honor Roll

STORRS, Conn. (March 27, 2006) - Freshman Danielle Del Ponte (Tewksbury, Mass.) was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon. It is the first league honor of the newcomers career.
Del Ponte was honored following a 6-13 performance in UConn's five games last week. In BIG EAST play, the freshman had a .500 batting average in four games, including three hits for extra bases. Two of those extra-base hits were home runs and both dingers came in the Huskies final game of the weekend, a 4-3 victory over Villanova on Sunday.
For the week, Del Ponte scored five runs and also drove in five. In the field, she amassed 29 putouts and one assist as the UConn catcher.
Del Ponte and the rest of the Huskies, who are 12-11 overall and 4-0 against conference opponents, will be in action next on Tuesday, March 28 when they host Quinnipiac at the Connecticut Softball Stadium. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
