HANOVER, N.H. (Feb. 25, 2006) – Liz Dibbs and Jessica Porter both won singles matches for the University of Connecticut women’s tennis team but the Huskies fell by a 5-2 score at Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon at the Boss Tennis Center in Hanover, N.H. The Huskies dip to 0-4 on the year with the loss, their closest of the spring season. The Big Green stands at 4-4.
After dropping each of the three doubles matches to open the day’s action, UConn claimed victories at the number three and four singles positions for their first multiple-win effort of the year. Porter took down Jennifer Murray in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3 while Dibbs was triumphant over Catia Carrell of Dartmouth, 3-6, 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4 singles. Additionally, two of the singles matches needed a third set as the Huskies nearly overcame dropping the doubles point to pull out a win. Jaclyn Shapiro went up a set against Ann Scott at No. 2 but fell by a 3-6, 6-0, 6-3 count. At No. 5, the Big Green’s Natalie O’Rourke won a pair of tiebreakers to beat BreAnn Cheung 7-6, 2-6, 7-6.
UConn will stay overnight in Hanover and face Stony Brook on Sunday morning at the Boss Tennis Center.
