STORRS, Conn. (November 27, 2006) – The University of Connecticut women’s tennis team has signed Emily Herb and Megan Doran to National Letters of Intent for the 2007-2008 season, head coach Glenn Marshall announced Wednesday.
Herb, a four-star recruit by TennisRecruiting.net, is a Cherry Hill, N.J., native. She was ranked No.209 in National Girls 18’s and No.156 for 16’s in 2005. An honor student, Herb is the daughter of Pamela and Michael Herb and hopes to pursue a degree in Dietetics and Nutritional Sciences.
“Emily brings a lot of hard work and enthusiasm to the court that will instantly improve our team,” Marshall said. “Her national experience will allow her to be an immediate contributor.”
Doran comes to UConn from Brigantine, N.J., where she helped Holy Spirit High to three straight Parochial A titles. During her junior and senior seasons, she advanced to the state singles semifinals while being named the Courier Post Player of the Year and All-South Jersey Player of the Year for the past two years. Doran was ranked as high as three in the middle states in 16’s and 7 in 18’s. Her national ranking in 16’s was 148. A first-team all-state selection this season, Doran is a member of National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society and is ranked in the top 10 of her class.
“Megan has outstanding results in her junior record,” Marshall said. “She is excellently conditioned and we’re looking forward to how her game will grow as she moves up to the college level.”
“Emily and Megan are two very strong recruits that will help get us to the top of the BIG EAST,” Marshall said. “We’re excited they chose the University of Connecticut.”
