WORCESTER, Mass. (November 21, 2006) — Senior Scott McDougall (Mansfield, Mass.) notched his second two-goal game of the season, but it wasn't enough as the University of Connecticut men's hockey team dropped a 7-3 decision at Holy Cross Tuesday evening at the Hart Center.
Holy Cross (7-5-0, 6-3-0 AHA) got on the board first when Frank O'Grady scored the game's first goal less than three minutes into the contest with a power-play goal.
UConn (3-9-0, 3-5-0) quickly responded, however, as freshman Alec Kirschner (Dix Hills, N.Y.) scored his second goal in as many games to even the score at one goal apiece just over two minutes later. Sophomore Chris Myhro (Eden Prairie, Minn.) tallied his 13th point of the season and his team-leading seventh assist on the play.
After the first period remained scoreless for the final 15 minutes of play, Holy Cross stormed out in the second period to score four unanswered goals to take a 5-1 lead into the final period.
The Crusaders opened the third period with a goal to take a 6-1 lead before McDougall netted his third goal of the season off passes from Matt Scherer (Seattle, Wash.) and Trevor Stewart (Elk River, Minn.). With his assist, Scherer is now tied with Myhro for the team lead with 13 points, and have notched at least one point in all but one game so far this season. Stewart now stands tied for second on the team with six helpers.
Following another Crusader goal, McDougall struck for his second goal of the game, receiving passes from Cole Koidahl (Minneapolis, Minn.) and Stewart. Koidahl now owns the team lead with eight assists this season.
UConn returns to the ice Saturday afternoon at 3:05 p.m. when the Huskies return home to take on Sacred Heart.
