Women's Tennis Successful on Day Two of Bucknell Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa. (October 7, 2006) - The University of Connecticut women's tennis team played the final rounds of singles and played in one round of doubles at the Bucknell Invitational on Saturday, October 7, in Lewisburg, Pa.
Senior Ashley Petruzzi (Bradenton, Fla.) won flight six as she defeated JoAnna Grossman of Bucknell 6-1, 6-0 before cruising past Quinnipiac's Brittney Merlino 6-1, 6-0. Freshman Ali Campitiello (New York, N.Y.) won flight eight with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Amy Sarrazin from Quinnipiac before taking a 6-3, 6-1 match over Tiff Card of Bucknell.
In flight three, junior Jess Porter (Duluth, Ga.) lost to Joy Adewumi from UMBC 5-7, 3-6 but bounced back to get a win over Quinnipiac's Amanda Petruzzi 6-0, 6-2. Sophomore BreAnn Cheung (Tucson, Ariz.) won 6-1, 7-5 over Carlin Calcaterra of Bucknell before dropping a 3-6, 5-7 match to Pascaline Cette from UMBC. Senior Liz Dibbs (Allentown, Pa.) was a 6-2, 6-2 winner over Danielle Rodriguez of Quinnipiac but fell to UMBC's Adriana Fonseca 2-6, 3-6 in flight five.
In flight one, senior Christine Burek (Wheaton, Ill.) lost to Gabby Pasternak from Quinnipiac 6-4. 5-7 (2-10) before falling to Tanya Valera of Bucknell 5-7, 1-6. Freshman Kelley LoRusso (Shoreham, N.Y.) dropped a close 5-7, 7-6(5) (10-8) match to Alice Chen of UMBC. Her final match against Ashley Globerman of Bucknell was not played due to Globerman's injury.
Sophomore Alison Koch (Lafayette Hill, Pa.) lost to UMBC's Barbara Couto 6-7, 2-6 and was defeated by Rene Weissand from Bucknell 4-6, 3-6.
In doubles play, Dibbs/Burek teamed up for an exciting 9-8(4) win over Petruzzi/Rodriguez from Quinnipiac in flight two. Koch/Petruzzi were 8-3 winners over Sarson/Adams, 8-3, in flight four.
In flight one, LoRusso/Cheung lost to Chen/Cette from UMBC 3-8 while in flight three, Porter/Campitiello fell to Bucknell's Weissand/Sotak 4-8.
The Huskies wrap up competition at the Bucknell Invitational in the final two rounds of doubles on Sunday.
