Field Hockey Edges Quinnipiac in Overtime 1-0

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (September 8, 2005) - Sophomore Lizzy Peijs (Venlo, Holland) scored the game’s lone goal 5:51 into overtime to give the University of Connecticut field hockey team a 1-0 win over Quinnipiac in a match played at Yale University on Thursday night.
Senior Laura Puddle (London, England) set up Peijs seven-yard game-winning blast, which marked her team-leading fourth goal of the season.
The win improves UConn to 3-1 overall, while Quinnipiac falls to 2-2 following the loss.
Connecticut goalkeeper Melissa Bostwick (San Diego, Calif.) made two saves in notching her second shutout of the season. Bobcat goalie Erin McKay made nine saves before she was beaten by Peijs on the game winner.
UConn out-shot Quinnipiac for the game 15-5 and attempted 16 penalty corners while limiting the Bobcats to four opportunities.
UConn returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 11 when they travel to face Princeton beginning at 12:00 p.m. (ET).
