UConn Ranked Tenth in 2006 Preseason BIG EAST Coaches' Poll

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Dec. 21) - The University of Connecticut softball team was picked to finish tenth of 12 teams in the 2006 Preseason BIG EAST Coaches’ Poll, despite a sixth-place finish in 2005. BIG EAST newcomer DePaul was selected to finish first with eight first-place votes.
The Huskies finished the 2005 season with a 20-25 overall record and a 8-10 mark against BIG EAST competition. Following the season, outfielder Stephanie DiBiase was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team while pitcher Jessica Gurney was named to the All-BIG EAST Third Team.
Defending regular-season champions Notre Dame was picked to finish second with 108 points and two first-place votes. Newcomers USF and Louisville were tabbed as the third and fourth place teams, respectively. USF received two first-place votes to be second. Syracuse was picked to finish fifth while last season's second-place team, Seton Hall, was tabbed to finish sixth in 2006.
UConn will kick of the 2006 season on March 3-5 when the Huskies will travel to Atlanta, Ga., for the Georgia Tech Buzz Classic.
