STORRS, Conn. (November 18) – The University of Connecticut women’s hockey team has signed Amy Hollstein, Cristin Allen and Michelle Binning to National Letters of Intent for the 2006-07 season as announced by Head Coach Heather Linstad on Thursday.
Hollstein, a native of Pembroke, Mass., currently attends Lawrence Academy. The forward, who shoots right, also plays for the Assabet Valley club program.
“Amy is going to bring speed to our team and make us quick up front," said Linstad. "She also has a terrific vision of the ice and is a gritty, determined competitor. Amy is a true hockey player.”
Allen, a native of Pickering, Ontario, plays for the Durham Lightning Intermediate AA squad. She is also a member of the Ontario Red, who successfully defended their Canadian National Women's Under-18 title on Nov. 13. A strong defenseman with a left shot, Allen will look to cause problems for UConn opponents in the coming seasons.
"Cristin is a steady, defensive blueline who is one of the best at the position in this incoming class," said Linstad. "She will make things difficult for our opponents while she is on the ice."
Binning, a left-shooting forward, is a native of Oshawa, Ontario. She is currently a member of the Toronto Junior Aeros Intermediate AA Team, a team that two current Huskies had played for prior to coming to Storrs.
Said Linstad, "Michelle will also add speed for us up front. She has a fantastic shot and is a very good two-way hockey player."
"I am very excited about having these three commit to the program," said Linstad. "They will really add depth to the roster and will make an immediate impact on the team's success."
