Kristen Russell Named Hockey East Player of the Week

WAKEFIELD, Mass. (November 14) - University of Connecticut women's ice hockey freshman Kristen Russell (Dauphin, Manitoba) was named Hockey East Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday.
Russell's honor, the first of her career, came on the heels of a three point weekend for the forward. She scored the Huskies first goal of a 3-0 victory over Boston University on Saturday, a goal which proved to be the game winner. Russell picked up her fourth goal of the season against Northeastern on Sunday and also dished out one assist in the losing effort.
Previously, Russell had been named to the Hockey East Honor Roll on Oct. 31 following her performance in the Nutmeg Classic.
Seniors Janelle Armitage (Kinsella, Alberta) and Kaitlyn Shain (Calgary, Alberta) were named to the Honor Roll following the weekend. Armitage had her first assist and first goal of the season against Boston University while Shain had 20 saves against BU for her second shutout of the season. Shain also had 30 saves while taking the loss against Northeastern.
UConn will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 19 when they travel to Boston, Mass. to take on Boston College. The puck is set to drop at 1:00 p.m. and the Huskies will remain in Boston for a rematch against Boston University on Sunday, Nov. 20 at 3:00 p.m.
