Shain Named Hockey East Goaltender of the Month

WAKEFIELD, Mass. (November 1, 2005) - Senior Kaitlyn Shain (Calgary, Alberta) has been selected as the Hockey East Player Goaltender of the Month for October as announced by the conference office on Tuesday. This is the first monthly honor for Shain, who has earned two weekly awards from the league so far this season.
Shain was in the net for all five of UConn's games and finished 2-3-0 overall in October with a .952 save percentage. She stopped 157 of 165 shots faced, allowing only eight goals for a 1.61 GAA for the month. She recorded one shutout, the eighth of her career, tallying 30 saves to blank Yale on Oct. 29 as UConn took the game, 3-0. Shain was 2-1-0 against nationally ranked opponents, stopping 107 shots while giving up four goals against then No. 3 Minnesota, then No. 10 Providence and No. 10 Yale. Following her performance against Minnesota and again against Providence, Shain was named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week.
The Huskies are next in action on Friday, Nov. 4 when they travel to Detroit, Mich. to take on the Wayne State Warriors. The puck will drop on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and again on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
