PROVIDENCE, R.I (October 31, 2005) – Julius James (Maloney Gardens, Trinidad) has been selected as the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year for the second time this season, as announced by the conference office Monday.
James led Connecticut (12-3-1, 7-3-1) to back-to-back 1-0 conference wins over West Virginia and Georgetown. The wins helped the Huskies secure the league's Blue Division regular season title and a first-round bye in the 2005 BIG EAST Championship. James limited UConn’s opponents to a combined five shots on goal and held the Hoyas' BIG EAST Preseason Co-Offensive Player of the Year Ricky Schramm scoreless.
James and the Huskies return to action in the quarterfinal round of the BIG EAST Tournament on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 1:00 p.m. in Joseph J. Morrone Stadium against the winner of the first round contest between Georgetown and Villanova.
