PROVIDENCE, R.I. (October 24, 2005) - O’Brian White (Scarborough, Ontario, Canada) was named the BIG EAST Men’s Soccer Rookie of the Week, as announced by the conference office Monday.
The freshman forward helped fourth-ranked Connecticut to a convincing 3-0 win over Pittsburgh Wednesday, Oct. 19. After a scoreless first half, White notched two consecutive tallies in a four-minute time span to put the Huskies up 2-0. He then delivered on the third goal of the contest by posting the assist. His five points stand as a tie for the game high this season by any Husky player.
With the five points, White moved into a tie for the lead on the team's scoring list with 16 points on six goals and four assists.
UConn travels to Morgantown, W.Va. to face West Virginia Wednesday night at 7:00. The Huskies and Mountaineers are in a three-way tie for second place in the conference Blue Division. The top two teams in each division will receive a bye in the opening round of the BIG EAST Tournament to begin next week.
