CHICAGO, Ill. (October 16, 2005) - The University of Connecticut women's soccer team rebounded after a devastating loss on Friday to Notre Dame to defeat DePaul, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon. Freshman Brittany Taylor (Campbell Hall, N.Y.) and junior Niki Cross (Pembroke, Mass.) both scored for the Huskies in the victory.
Both teams remained scoreless in the first half, but the Huskies out-shot the Blue Demons, 8-4. The game began with freshman Stephanie Labbe (Stony Plain, Alberta) in goal for Connecticut. She made one save in her time between the pipes. The Connecticut goalkeepers would combine for a total of three saves.
With the game tied at 0-0 at the start of the second half, the Huskies came out strong. At the 52:08 mark, Cross stole the ball and dribbled to the top of the box, scoring unassisted to put the Huskies on the board and take the lead, 1-0.
Just over 11 minutes later, Taylor scored what would eventually be the game-winner. She accepted a pass from redshirt sophomore Meghan Schnur (Butler, Pa.) and took the shot from 10 yards out.
With less than 10 minutes remaining in the game, DePaul's Alissa Vonderhaar headed a pass off a cross from Caitlin Ferrell past UConn keeper Megan Jessee (Orefield, Pa.) to score the Blue Demon's only goal of the game.
The Huskies will be back in action again on Oct. 21 at home against West Virginia at 7:00 p.m.
