STORRS, Conn. (Sept. 4) – University of Connecticut men’s soccer (0-2-0) dropped a 1-0 decision to Washington (2-0-0) Saturday night at Morrone Stadium. The deciding goal for Washington came as Casey Armstrong headed the ball into the top of the net for his first of the season off a feed from C.J. Klass 11:40 into the opening half.
UConn threatened with quality scoring chances but could not convert as freshman Bonginkosi Macala (Pretoria, South Africa) narrowly missed the net 14:45 in with Washington goalkeeper Chris Eylander down. Another Connecticut opportunity came shortly after at 16:15 when the ball came to Willis Forko (Houston, Texas) in the middle of the box and he sent it just high over the crossbar.
Eylander made four saves in net for Washington and Geoffrey Anatole (Sharon, Mass.) stopped two for UConn. Connecticut out-shot Washington 12-6 and corner kicks were 9-2 in favor of Washington.
The Huskies will next play host to the UConn adidas Soccer Classic Sept. 10-11 at Morrone Stadium.
